We went to commerce this past weekend for the ORSCA race. Dustin entered in the 7.0 class for the first time and did a great job. The object of a class is to get as close to the time as possible without 'breaking out' (going under). The first time out dustin ran a 6.96 which was a bit too fast. So they worked on the car a bit and then he ran a 7.01! with a .003 reaction which is almost perfect. He was super excited and so were we. He had to do what is called foot braking (no trans break which helps out a lot bc you hold down a button with a trans break and dont have to have both feet on the brake, so you can have the gas foot ready) so he had to have both feet on the brake and then had to switch to gas in a blink of an eye. So to get a .003 reaction time (best is .000) is amazing!! (and maybe lucky) There were 45 people in his class and qualified #19 going into the race! On his first race he came so close to cutting a perfect time that you could not have even blinked your eyes. He ran a 6.994, .006 away from his index time. Unfort, when you 'break out' it doesnt matter how close, you are disqualified. So we didn't get to go on to any other rounds, but had a blast at the race track. It was a great way to go and have some family fun time and blow off some steam.. literally with the burn outs! haha.
We will be back at Commerce in October for another race and thinking about him entering again :)
